The only coastal beach sheltered from the “Tramontane” wind, it stretches from the cliff and the Plagette, a small and very popular cove, to the oyster farming centre and the naturist villages. The sand of this beach is known worldwide as “sable étalon”.

Galion beach and central beach

The Galion beach is the first one you will see when you arrive in Leucate Plage, along the seafront, opposite the large free car park, the well-named Galion car park. A wide beach of fine sand, supervised, beyond the dunes. For a meal or a nap on a Fatboy, go to the Poulpe, Un amour de plage beach club or to the Galion Bar & Restaurant to enjoy a dinner with a view.

The central beach of Leucate Plage is the one right in front of the Hotel La Côte Rêvée, the historic hotel of Leucate Plage. You can’t go wrong with the trampolines of the children’s club Les dauphins de Leucate, the rescue station called La Vigie (a perfect replica of a Californian lifeguard shack) and Ginette, a lively beach bar and restaurant!

Here, all the amenities are close: free parking, WC, children’s playground, rescue station, beach shop…

Briganti

To discover this beach with its crystal clear waters sheltered from the wind, continue along the seafront and its villas till the end. This is a dead-end road, so it is better to park in the centre of Leucate Plage and walk to the Briganti beach. 2 staircases lead down to the beach.

You just have to choose where to put your towel! You are at the foot of the cliff, the rocks are already plunging into the crystal clear water! Get out your snorkeling gear for an exploration of the seabed full of Mediterranean fishes at this point. A snorkelling paradise in the Mediterranean!

Let’s try diving

Sheltered from the wind under the cliff!

This is the best kept secret of Leucate and its inhabitants. Here we are used to the wind, this Tramontane which often blows very hard, so we know the sheltered places! In Leucate Plage in general and on the Briganti beach and La Plagette in particular, the wind is stopped by the cliff.

Take the stairs that climb up the cliff to enjoy the panoramic view over the coves below and the Mediterranean Sea. On a clear day you can see Port Leucate, the whole Catalan coast and even Spain!

The lighthouse is the starting point of the “sentier du guetteur”, an hiking trail that runs along the edge of the cliff and leads you to the Semaphore, above La Plagette, then to Anse du Paradis and La Franqui.

From coves to the “Plagette”

Following the cliff by the beach, with your feet in the water, you can access several coves, sandy or rocky, different each year according to the currents and storms. The ideal place to enjoy the crystal clear waters and the breathtaking view of the cliffs just above.

Below the semaphore it’s the Plagette, a secret beach accessible from the water’s edge or via a very steep path from the top of the cliff. It is an old suspended dune which once reached the very top of the cliff. For all lovers of tranquillity and nature!

Info: This is a magical place, let’s protect it! Do not leave the path and of course everyone should bring back their rubbish!

Family friendly beach

Look no further, you’ve found the perfect beach to lay your towels on the sand with your family!

Ready to spend a perfect day at the beach? It starts with a swimming lesson at the kids’ club, while you set up camp: beach umbrella, buoys and towels at the foot of the rescue station.

If you feel a little peckish, all you have to do is choose your terrace… with your feet in the sand? In the shade of the canisses? Sea view?

In the afternoon, go on an expedition to the foot of the cliff with your feet in the water! Don’t forget your snorkelling gear!

At the end of the day you can participate in a biathlon or a beach volleyball tournament! It will certainly be the best souvenir of the holidays for the youngest!

Mouret : beach clubs, dunes and “ganivelles”

Located between the Galion and the oyster farmers’ grau, Mouret beach is the natural beach of Leucate Plage. No construction here and a beach moment that will inevitably rhyme with beauty and freedom!

In a setting of dunes and ganivelles, escape!

From May to September, the beach restaurant Les Pilotis and the private beach Chez Biquet will welcome you for a drink, a meal or a summer evening as only Leucate has the secret!

The Maison de l’étang museum, which offers a permanent exhibition on the pond and the environment, will welcome the most curious, while the Ranch Desperado will offer the youngest a pony ride. For the gourmets, go to one of the oyster huts of the “Centre Ostréicole” to taste Leucate oysters, clams, mussels and shrimps!
